8 Month Joanna

Another month filled with lots of smiles, giggles, growing, and learning. Here are the highlights:

Weight: 16 pounds - she's is up to the 25th percentile for weight!

Eating - In addition to her purees, she has started eating more finger foods such as cheerios, pancakes, bananas and beans. She can pick them up herself but can't quite open her hand to release them into her mouth. We are still nursing and I am starting to realize she is going to be very difficult to wean because she is ready to nurse every 3 hours like clockwork!

Movement: Joanna is soooooo close to crawling! She is scootching herself and rolling all over the room but hasn't quite figured out the crawling motion. She is starting to stand up on toys and people and loves to walk holding daddy's fingers.

Talking: lots of dadadada's, nananana's and a few mamama's. She still doesn't know what these sounds mean though. She is quite a chatterbox and is talking pretty much all the time! Our big accomplishment of the month is signing the word more. She uses the sign appropriately to ask for more but doesn't quite understand that Mommy and Daddy don't always know what she wants more of! We are working on signs for eat and drink now!

Teeth: Lots of drooling but still no teeth! I can pretty much see her 2 bottom teeth through her gums though so they have got to be coming soon!

Play: Still loves digging in baskets to pull things out. Everything is a toy. Joanna loves to touch the keyboard on the computer and buttons on the remote and phone. She is getting good at turning the pages in her books and opening flaps. Sophie the Giraffe is a favorite right now and we never leave home without her! She is still not interested in television but will occasionally watch short videos of babies singing and signing on Mommy's phone. Lots of new toys this month thanks to Mimi!

Sleep: I have faith that some day, Joanna will learn how to sleep. After all, she can't get to 20 years old and still only be able to fall asleep by crying...right?! For now, I'll just have to settle for waking up 1-2 (sometimes 3 or 4) times per night. We have tried 2 months of "crying it out" and not really seen much progress. She's just not ready and that's ok. As soon as mama is walking again, we will try a different method, haven't quite decided what method that will be yet but am open for suggestions!
